Abstract : The purpose of this study is to verify the moderated mediating effect of alcohol dependence on the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between depression and subjective well-being in youth. For this purpose, response data from 907 people aged 19 to 30 were utilized using data from the 14th year of the Korean Welfare Panel Survey. For data analysis, SPSS 26 and PROCESS macro were used to conduct regression analysis and verify the significance of the moderated mediating effect. The main results are as follows: First, the direct effect of depression on subjective well-being was significant, and the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between depression and subjective well-being was also significant. In other words, self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between depression and subjective well-being. Second, the moderated mediating effect of alcohol dependence on the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between depression and subjective well-being was significant. Using the results of this study, we proposed a method of intervening with both depression and self-esteem as a practical measure to improve youth's subjective well-being, and found that alcohol dependence in youth complaining of depression can lower their self-esteem. It was suggested that it be used for.
