The purpose of this study was to explore psychological changes of people with acquireddisability. Semi-structured interviews were done for five participants and the data were analyzedusing Giorgi¡¯s phenomenological method. As a result, fear at death¡¯s door, and pain andsuffering in rehabilitation were found at the time of acquiring disability. As time went by, theycommonly experienced hopelessness, sadness, and depression in the process of adaptation andre-socialization due to social discrimination. Furthermore, these feelings were heighten overtime. Finally, they overcame these feelings due to redefined relationships and roles. They alsosaid high level of self-confidence, self-esteem, and psychological growth were achieved. Thefindings suggests that different interventions were needed for people with acquired disabilitydepending on their psychological changes.
