This study attempted to explore the difficulties experienced by first-time counselors in youthinstitutions and their meanings. The study participants selected six counselors with less thanthree years of experience and conducted in-depth interviews, and analyzed them usingGiorgi(1985)'s phenomenological research method. As a result of the study, the difficultiesexperienced by first-time counselors are 'experience various situations that are difficult to applycounseling theory', 'facing obstacles in the unexpected field', 'limitations due to lack of expertiseof counselors', 'ethics vs. There were psychological conflicts caused by reality, difficulties causedby negative views on counseling, and difficulties caused by clients. In addition, it was confirmedthat the participants "discovered a way to overcome the limitations of the field" and "felt theneed for development as a counselor" and found meaning in the field. In this study, through thedifficulties experienced by youth counselors in youth institutions and the meaning of the process,discussions on the development of counselors and on-site efforts were proposed.
