The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of the social capital in therelationship between self-efficacy and retirement preparation among middle-aged women. Thedata used in this research was collected from survey questions given to 316 middle-agedwomen, from 40 to 59 years old, residing in B-city and K-do. The results of this study are as follows. First, each correlation between self-efficacy, social capital, and retirement preparation was significant. Second, the social capital had a partial mediation effect on the relationshipbetween self-efficacy and retirement preparation. That is, there are significant effects in both thedirect path from self-efficacy to retirement preparation and the indirect path from self-efficacy toretirement preparation through social capital. These results suggest that it is necessary toincrease self-efficacy and social capital in order to increase retirement preparation ofmiddle-aged women.
