<Abstract>
This study examines the structural relationship in which job-seekers¡¯ career barriers have effects on
their career preparation behaviors by using their accidental response skills and their decision-making
self efficacy as a mediator, and verifies the mediating effects. To that end, 245 job seekers in Korea
Polytechnic University in Seoul and Seoul metropolitan areas were surveyed to acquire the relevant
data. According to the findings of this study, first, job-seekers¡¯ career barriers were found to have a
significant negative correlation with accidental response skills, career decision self efficacy, and career
preparation behaviors, while accidental response skills, career preparation behaviors, and career
decision-making self efficacy were found to have a significant positive correlation between themselves.
Second, in the relationship between career barriers and career preparation behaviors, the structural
model in which accidental response skills and career decision-making self-efficacy mediate showed a
good fit. In terms of mediating effects of accidental response skills and career decision-making
self-efficacy, accidental response skills had no mediating effect, career decision-making self-efficacy
had full mediating effects, and accidental response skills and career decision-making self-efficacy had
a completely double mediating effect. Thus, it was confirmed that the improvement of accidental
response skills and career decision-making self-efficacy should be promoted to help successful career
preparation behaviors of job-seekers who perceive career barriers. Also, consultations provided a way
to help job-seekers' career preparation behaviors.
Keywords: career barriers, career preparation behavior, happenstance coping skills, career
decision-making self-efficacy
