<Abstract>

The purpose of this study is to identify important factors in the process of professional

development through reviewing various empirical literatures on the professional development of

counselors, and to evaluate the Korean counseling education program based on them.

Specifically, the study examined the counselor's professional development.

As a result, First, the counselor professional development model needs to overcome the

limitations of existing research through long-term longitudinal and qualitative research. Second,

it was found that not only knowledge and technical competencies are important for the

professional development of counselors, but also the integrated development of cognition,

emotion, and relationship ability. Third, as a result of comparing the literature research on the

development of counselors with the current status of counseling courses in the master's and

doctoral programs in Korea, most of the graduate courses were focused on theoretical

knowledge acquisition, and practical education was not enough
